Tibet Autonomous Region is located in the southwest of China, with a land area of 1.22 million square kilometers, bordering Xinjiang Region and Qinghai Province to the north, Sichuan and Yunnan to the east, India, Nepal, Sikkim, and Burma to the south. Tibet Autonomous Region, often called “the roof of the world,” lies in the first highest plateau on earth in Asia, the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (with an average elevation of 4,900 meters (16,000 ft)).
