Tibet Autonomous Region is located in the southwest of China, with a land area of 1.22 million square kilometers, bordering Xinjiang Region and Qinghai Province to the north, Sichuan and Yunnan to the east, India, Nepal, Sikkim, and Burma to the south. Tibet Autonomous Region, often called “the roof of the world,” lies in the first highest plateau on earth in Asia, the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (with an average elevation of 4,900 meters (16,000 ft)). Its capital city is Lhasa. Tibet is to the north-east of the Himalayas and the available oxygen in most of it is only half of that at sea level. It is the homeland of Tibetan people. With an area of 1,228,400 km², Tibet is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.
