Arun river rafting is the challenging rafting trip of eastern part of Nepal. Arun River is fewer rafters visited but it is perfect white water rafting destination. Arun river is one of the tributaries of river Sapta Kosi that flows in the Eastern Nepal. The Arun is respected as one of the most mightily and powerful rivers of Nepal. Its source is on the Tibetan Plateau, to the north of Kathmandu and it then swings in an easterly arc for some 200 km, drinking the Northern slopes of Everest and Makalu before cutting south through the Himalayas and into Nepal. It cuts through the Himalayas in some deep and awesome gorges that have fascinated explorers join the Sun Kosi shortly before the Indian Plain. The gorges and gradient ease off near Chandanpur as the valley opens out and the hills get lower.
We schedule rafting trips on the Arun every year. Tumlingtar is the obvious and most convenient starting point and we recommend that you fly here as it is only a short direct flight from Kathmandu and only forty minute’s walk from the river. The 70 km down to Chatra has been kayaked in a day, but normally makes a relaxed 3 day raft trip and you can then fly back to Kathmandu from Biratnagar. The journey to the put-in point for the Arun River involves a 18 hour Journey by bus, with transportation arranged by Mountain River Rafting to Khadbari followed by a 03 day wilderness trip to the village of Bumbling. Or Fly to Tumlingtar is more Logistic and makes inexpensive trips.
Start walking from Tumlingtar to Bumbling it takes again 03 days trekking to the put in point. The 70 km river action takes 5 to 6 days. The return journey from Chatara, the take-out point, is 14 to 16 hours to Kathmandu. It is also possible to arrange a flight from Biratnagar to Kathmandu in additional cost.
